Macalester adds assistant

Macalester College and athletics director Kim Chandler have named Courtney Euerle as assistant women’s basketball coach, joining the staff of new head coach Kelly Roysland for the 2014-15 season.

Euerle joins the staff fresh off a 2014 senior season at Saint Mary’s University, where she was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the year. A well-rounded 6-1 forward for the Cardinals, she finished in the top 20 in the conference in scoring, field goal and free throw percentage, rebounds and assists.

A three-year starter at Saint Mary’s, she averaged 9.1 points and 6.4 rebounds in 107 career games and, as a senior average 13.5 points and 7.7 rebounds and completed her career ranked first in games played and second in blocked shots (124) at St. Mary’s.

"I am very excited to have Courtney join the Macalester women’s basketball staff," Roysland said. "Her knowledge and understanding of the MIAC, as well as her passion and energy for the game, will help immensely with the continued development of our student-athletes."

Euerle served as an orientation leader at Saint Mary’s, guiding first-year students and their families during the orientation process and spoke on panels to answer specific questions and concerns of incoming first-year students and their families.

She was also a team captain for the Cardinals and was an Ambassador member as well as a member of the Business/Public Relations Club at St. Mary’s. During her senior year, she was worked as an intramural intern, managing workers and supervising competitions while also helping to update and maintain the organization’s social media platforms and working to improve the marketing tactics used by the department.

This past summer, she served as a promotions intern with the St. Paul Saints, assisting with pre-game and in-game promotions as well as working with ticket sales.

Euerle, a Litchfield, Minn., native and 2010 graduate of Litchfield High School, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in sport management and marketing, with a minor in public relations from St. Mary’s in May. She will begin her duties at Macalester on Sept. 15.
