Long promoted to Associate Head Coach at Ferrum

Director of Athletics John Sutyak and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Bryan Harvey have announced the promotion of Kelsey Long to Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach.

In this new capacity, Long will add recruiting coordinator and director of operations to her daily duties.

Since her arrival at Ferrum, the Panthers have recorded their first ever victory in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament and have had their first ever player on the ODAC All-Conference team at the end of the year.

I am super excited to promote Kelsey to Associate Head Coach,” said Head Women’s Basketball Coach Bryan Harvey. “She works extremely hard and has done everything that is asked of her and then some. I’ve been through a lot personally this year and her loyalty and willingness to do everything I needed is very much appreciated. She is constantly trying to make my job easier. Her hard work has earned her this promotion!”

Prior to Ferrum, Long was the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at St. Andrews University for two years from 2016-18. Her responsibilities included academic advisor, team travel, day-to-day basketball operations, recruiting visits, film breakdown, and opponents scouting while also serving as the summer basketball camps director.

Long spent two years prior to that at Queens University of Charlotte as an Assistant and worked on her master’s in communications while with the Royals. In that capacity, she was responsible for food and travel, video operations, oversaw managers, practice drills and helped with on-campus recruiting visits.

Long graduated from East Surry High School, where she was a four-year varsity starter, the 2009 Northwest Conference Player of the Year and 2010 District 11 Player of the Year. Also, she was a four-year letter winner and 1,200-point scorer at Belmont Abbey College. During her time as a collegiate student-athlete, Long was a two-time Conference Carolinas All-Conference selection, three-time Conference Carolinas Basketball Academic All-Conference and was introduced into the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. She graduated Cum Laude from Belmont Abbey with a degree in Sports Management in 2014 with a double-minor in Business and Psychology.
