Long Named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at DII North Greenville U.

North Greenville announced that Kelvin Long has been named the new head coach of the women’s basketball program. Long is NGU’s third head coach since joining the NCAA Division II in 2001.

Long joins NGU after serving as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston for three years where he was also the recruiting coordinator. Prior to that, Long was an assistant at Charleston Southern University for two years.

Before his time in Charleston, Long served as an assistant coach for two teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference, spending a year at Kennesaw State University before joining the East Tennessee State University. At ETSU, Long helped lead the Buccaneers to the 2008, 2009, and 2010 conference championships.

Long has a proven track record of getting the most out of student-athletes. While at ETSU, guards Siarre Evans and TaRonda Wiles were Atlantic Sun Conference Co-Players of the Year in 2010. Evans was also named Conference Player of the Year and was an All-American finalist in 2008.

A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Long received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Tennessee in 2004 and his master’s degree in sport management at ETSU in 2010.

The North Greenville family welcomes Long as well as his wife, Sharon, and their daughters Nakiya and Jayah.
