LIU Brooklyn Hires Assistant Coach

LIU Brooklyn women’s basketball head coach Stephanie Oliver has announced that Samara Marsh will join her women’s basketball coaching staff this July, as an assistant coach.

Marsh comes to the Blackbird family after eight years of coaching experience in the New York and New Jersey area. Most recently, Marsh spent a season as an assistant coach with the Manhattan Jaspers. She helped the Jaspers to an 11-9 record in the MAAC, advancing to the Tournament quarterfinals. She also coached Amani Tatum, the 2015-16 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.

The Bronx native joined Manhattan’s staff following a five-year stint at Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York. Marsh was the top assistant at Monroe from 2010-15.  She was responsible for recruiting, academics and strength & conditioning, as well as post player development.  Two of Marsh’s post players received NJCAA All-America honors, and 11 Monroe players moved on to NCAA four-year institutions.  During her five seasons, the Mustangs won four district titles and consecutive NJCAA National Championships in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

Prior to her time at Monroe, she was an assistant coach at Saint Peter’s for two seasons (2008-10).  Marsh was involved in post player development and recruiting, while also serving as the Peacocks’ video coordinator.  In addition, she was in charge of running the Saint Peter’s basketball camp.

A 2008 graduate of Saint Peter’s, she was the manager for the Peacocks’ women’s basketball team as an undergraduate before being elevated to assistant coach.

“Coach Marsh has an in depth knowledge of local recruiting,” Oliver said. “She has worked in the tri- state area over the years, and has been successful at every level of coaching. We are looking forward to her joining our staff.”
