Lindsey Wilson Resigns as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Fresno Pacific

Fresno Pacific University Director of Athletics Aaron Henderson announced Friday that he has accepted the resignation of head women’s basketball coach Lindsey Wilson, effective immediately.

“I’d like to thank Coach Wilson for her three years of service and dedication,” said Henderson. “We wish her success in her future endeavors.”

Wilson joined the FPU staff in the summer of 2013. In her first season on the job, she led the Sunbirds to their first winning conference record since 2002.

Wilson came to FPU from Eastern New Mexico University, where she spent two seasons as head coach, and previously served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Texas-Arlington for five seasons.

“I’m very thankful for my time at FPU,” said Wilson. “I’ve enjoyed the past three years and all of the student-athletes I have come in contact with. I want to thank former Director of Athletics Leslie Schuemann for giving me the opportunity. I feel that it is the right time for my family to move back closer to home.”

The FPU women’s basketball program has a rich tradition with an all-time record of 535-446 (.545 win percentage), seven conference titles (second most in the history of the Golden State Athletic Conference prior to the program joining the NCAA) and numerous alumni that have gone on to become leaders in their communities.

The Sunbirds, however, have not posted a winning overall record since the 2006-07 season. The program’s last conference title came in 2001-02.

Lead assistant John Bonner will assume the role of interim head coach and a national search will commence immediately.
