Linda Sayavongchanh Named Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

Indiana head coach Teri Moren has announced Linda Sayavongchanh as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the women’s basketball program.

We are excited to have Linda join our family,” Moren said. “Linda has a proven track record of recruiting, developing, and coaching winning players. She has achieved great success at Creighton including last season’s Elite Eight run. Her attitude, work ethic and competitiveness will fit right in with our culture here at Indiana.”

Sayavongchanh comes to Indiana after spending the last seven seasons at Creighton (2015-22), where she was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. During her time in Omaha, she helped the Bluejays to three trips to the NCAA Tournament including the program’s first ever trips to the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight in 2022. Sayavongchanh (pronounced Cy-ya-vong-chan) worked with guards and combo players during her first four seasons, before transitioning to work specifically with hybrids (posts) over the last three seasons. Her players earned a plethora of accolades during her time with CU, including the program’s first ever WNBA draft pick in Jaylyn Agnew who was also the 2020 Big East Player of the Year. Other players under Sayavongchanh’s instruction included All-Big East guards Marissa Janning, Temi Carda, Sydney Lamberty and forwards Audrey Faber, Morgan Maly and Emma Ronsiek. Maly was named the 2021-22 BIG EAST Sixth Player of the Year while Rosniek also earned a place on the league’s first team last season.

“I am beyond excited to join the Hoosier family,” Sayvongchanh said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Moren and her staff. They are unbelievable coaches, winners and most of all, great human beings. I’m looking forward to helping Indiana women’s basketball continue to be successful and I can’t wait to get to work.”

Before coming to Creighton, Sayavongchanh spent two years at Saint Louis (2013-15) and spent time on the bench with North Dakota (2012-13) as well as her alma mater, Drake (2009-12). She began her career as a graduate assistant at Minnesota-Duluth (2007-09).

Sayavongchanh starred at Drake from 2002-06 where she was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection. She finished her career with 1,129 points and was named to the MVC All-Defensive team three times. She closed her career second in steals for the Bulldogs with 266, including 105 in 2003-04.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Sayavongchanh is a member of the Lincoln High School Hall of Fame as well as the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Hall of Fame. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Drake (2007). She and longtime boyfriend Joe Konrad have a dog, Kobe.
