Lesley University Hires Coach

Lesley University Director of Athletics Jen Benway has announced Josh Motroni as the Head Coach for Women’s Basketball. Motroni comes to Cambridge after serving two years as the Head Coach as Fisher College in Boston.

"Josh has a tremendous amount of experience coaching college basketball and we are so fortunate to have him join our staff," said Benway. "He has a great knowledge of the game and has shown a tremendous ability to communicate that knowledge to his players. He is a passionate coach who gets excited about basketball and recruiting prospective student-athletes. We are truly lucky to have him lead our Women’s Basketball program."

"I want to thank the committee for offering this opportunity," said Motroni. "It is exciting to become part of the Lesley family. I look forward to working with the rest of the Athletic Department, the student-athletes, and the Lesley community to help restore the women’s program and make them competitive in the NECC."

While at the helm of the Falcons, Motroni set the program record for wins in just his second season while also setting records for points per game, fewest points per game, steals, and free throw percentage while compiling a roster with student-athletes from both the east and west coasts. In his second season, Fisher finished fifth in the NAIA Independent Rankings.

Motroni has also served as the Head Coach of the Women’s program at Northern Essex Community College where he improved the winning percentage of the program from .080 to .579 during his tenure.

Prior to his time at Northern Essex, Motroni served as the Lead Assistant Coach at Emerson College. While with the Lions, he helped lead the program to a 16-9 record and a postseason berth in his second season. He also served as the Interim Head Coach of the Lions.

Motroni also has experience in the high school ranks as he began his coaching career as an Associate Head Coach at the Brimmer & May School in Chestnut Hill, Mass. where he helped lead the program to four straight conference championships and four consecutive NEPSAC Final Four appearances. Additionally, Motroni served on the coaching staff of the Belmont High School Girls Basketball team from 2010-2012.

A 1996 graduate of St. Joseph’s College (Maine) with a degree in Communications, Motroni works for the New England Sports Network (NESN) as a Senior Operations Technician.
