Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball Adds Sierra Simpson To Coaching Staff For 2017-18

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women’s Basketball Team has announced the hiring of Sierra Simpson as its new Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.

Simpson was an Assistant Coach at both Wofford (2016-17) and Anderson (S.C.) (2015-16) for the past two years.  Last season, the Terriers won their second-most games in the NCAA Division I era since the 2000-01 campaign.  Two years ago, Simpson was part of a Trojans’ staff which captured the 2015-16 SAC Regular Season Championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

I am thrilled to have Sierra (Simpson) join me on this journey,” said Lenoir-Rhyne Head Women’s Basketball Coach Cameron Sealey, a first-year mentor.  “Her knowledge of the game, experience with the South Atlantic Conference and success in the Southeast Region will be of huge benefit to our student-athletes.”

Simpson was a four-year standout at Anderson (2011-15), earning SAC Player-Of-The-Year honors as a senior.  Simpson led the Trojans to a pair of SAC Regular Season Championships (2012-13 and 2014-15), two berths in the NCAA Division II Playoffs (2013 and 2015) and the 2013 SAC Tournament Championship.

Simpson finished her career with 1,049 points and led the league in assists (4.6) as a senior in 2014-15.  Simpson was also named the 2015 Ed Oxford Anderson University Student-Athlete Of The Year.

The commitment, dedication and hard work she puts forth every day are exactly what our program is about,” added Sealey.  “Sierra has a gift in this profession and we are fortunate she’s at Lenoir-Rhyne University.  She will be a great role model for our players on and off the court.”

Simpson, a native of Simpsonville, S.C., earned both her bachelor’s degree (kinesiology) and master’s degree (business administration) from Anderson University.
