Lehigh Announces Hiring of Micir as Associate Head Coach

Lehigh women’s basketball head coach Sue Troyan announced on Friday the hiring of former Ivy League Player of the Year and Princeton standout Addie Micir, as an associate head coach to the Mountain Hawks staff. Micir spent the last year of her coaching career at her alma mater where she helped lead the Tigers to the 2018-19 Ivy League Regular Season and Tournament Championship. She joins Troyan and associate head coach Glenn Rigney on the coaching staff for the 2019-20 season.

“We’re very excited about the addition of Addie to our women’s basketball staff, she will be a great addition to our program, department and University,” said Troyan. “In Addie, we are getting a coach who has a strong understanding of recruiting student-athletes at high academic and competitive levels; who brings a strong understanding for the game on both sides of the ball; who has achieved at a distinctive level of competitive success as both a student-athlete and a coach; and who is committed to developing student-athletes to be their personal best on the court, in the classroom and as leaders in our community.”

This past season with Micir on the coaching staff, Princeton achieved an overall record of 22-10 and a league record of 12-2 en route to its second consecutive Ivy League crown. As an assistant, she helped develop Bella Alarie to be Ivy League Player of the Year and First Team All-Ivy League for the 2018-19 season.

Prior to her season with the Tigers, Micir served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Dartmouth for five seasons, where she recruited nationally and internationally, helping to bring in players from 14 different states and three foreign countries. Two Big Green players were named to All-Ivy teams under Micir, including guard Kate Letkewicz in 2018 and Lakin Roland in 2016.

Micir had a prolific playing career at Princeton, being named the program’s first unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year in her senior season. A 1,000-point scorer and a three-time All-League selection, she played a big role in leading the Tigers to back-to-back Ivy League titles in 2010 and 2011. The league title in 2010 was Princeton’s first outright championship since 1978, which included the team’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.

“First, I want to thank the people who made me feel so welcome during my visit to campus, especially Dean of Athletics Joe Sterrett and Head Coach Sue Troyan,” said Micir. “Many thanks also to all the members of the staff and athletic department and to the current players. It was a joy to meet each of them. The passion they all demonstrated for Lehigh basketball, the athletics community, and the university itself was palpable and contagious. I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the Lehigh family.”

“I also want to give a special thanks to Coach Banghart and the staff for my time at Princeton. Coach developed me as a player and gave me the opportunity to grow as a coach. I’m grateful to be a part of last year’s championship season, and I will certainly miss the young women I got to work with each day. I wish them the best for the upcoming season.

“With that said, I’m anxious to get started and excited to go to work. The academic and athletic reputation of Lehigh aligns perfectly with my values, and I’m thrilled to contribute to this program as we hunt down Patriot League championships.”

Micir earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Princeton in 2011 and her master’s degree in Liberal Studies from Dartmouth in 2018.
