The Millsaps Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of former Millsaps basketball player and former assistant men’s basketball coach Justin LeBlanc. LeBlanc will take on the role as new head coach of the women’s basketball program.
“His reputation for the work that he did here as an assistant and at Centenary precedes him,” said athletic director Donnie Brooks. “We are excited about his return and we are looking forward to a great season.”
LeBlanc returns to Millsaps after spending six season at Centenary College where he spent five successful season as assistant coach for the Gents basketball team and one season as the head coach of the Ladies basketball team.
At the helm of the women’s basketball program, LeBlanc led the team to its most successful season in 14 years. Under his direction, the Ladies closed the 2015-16 season 9-17 overall and 3-12 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, tying their 2001-02 effort and grabbing the most wins since their 1982-83 campaign. The team’s success during the season allowed the Ladies to qualify for the conference tournament for the first time in two season. The Ladies effort brought several postseason accolades including three All-Conference honorees and two honorable mentions.
Prior to his season as head coach, LeBlanc assisted Gents basketball coach Adam Walsh acting as lead recruiter and guard coach. LeBlanc help mold three-straight SCAC Players of the Year, three-straight Conference Newcomers of the Year, four All-Americans, four All-District selections, 12 All-Conference honorees, and 12 SCAC Player of the Week.
Before his time at Centenary, LeBlanc served as an assistant men’s coach at Millsaps for four season. During his time at his alma mater, the Majors held a 67-43 overall record, captured the 2008 SCAC title, and advanced to the Elite 8 of the 2008 NCAA Division III National Tournament. As assistant coach, he helped develop eight all-conference selections, two NABC All-South Region selections, a SCAC Tournament MVP, and an All-American Selection.
As a player, LeBlanc was a four-year letter winner from 2002-06 and led his team to four SCAC Tournament appearances. He graduated from Millsaps in 2006 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in French and he received his master’s degree in Sport Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2011
