Ewa Laskowska has been promoted to associate head coach, UTEP women’s basketball head coach Keitha Adams announced Monday.
Laskowska is heading into her 13th season at UTEP and her 16th overall as a part of Adams’ staff dating to the duo’s time at Independence Community College. She served as Adams’ top assistant from 1998 through the 2000-01 season. She was also one of the top players in ICC history, twice earning NJCAA All-American & Kodak All-American honors. She was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame in Oct. 2011.
She has been instrumental in the Miners’ success, helping them claim three league titles (2008 & 2012 Conference USA regular season; 2012 C-USA tournament crown) while compiling the second-best record of any member institution (151-68) since 2006-07.
All four 20+ win campaigns, five of the six seasons of at least 18 victories and eight of the 11 campaigns with at least 16 triumphs all time at UTEP have come during her time at the school.
"Coach Ewa has been an extremely hard worker at UTEP," Adams said. "She has played a major role in our program’s success. I’ve been very fortunate to have her dedication and loyalty. She has earned the promotion to associate head coach for UTEP women’s basketball."
Her efforts at UTEP have earned her the well-deserved reputation of being an outstanding domestic and international recruiter. In her time in the Sun City, she has attracted countless players rated by the All-Star Girls’ Report along with securing commitments from some of the top international talent.
Her reputation for international basketball knowledge led to her earning a spot as an assistant coach with the U17 Venezuelan National team in the spring of 2007. Her efforts helped the squad win the South American Championship for the first time in the history of the program.
She has assisted in the recruitment of several players who gained postseason accolades for performances on the court and in the classroom. In addition, 15 players coached by Laskowska are now playing professionally, with three having been selected in the WNBA draft.
Laskowska is also involved in assisting with practice planning, on-court coaching, working on scouting reports, skills workouts, game scheduling and academics.
Her efforts have helped turn the Miners into a championship caliber program that has drawn notice both regionally and nationally.
