Anne (McShane) Lapray is leaving Willamette University after three years as the head coach of the women’s basketball team, Athletic Director David Rigsby announced today.
Prior to becoming head coach, Lapray was an assistant coach for the Bearcats from 1997-99 and 2005-09.
During her three seasons as head coach, she worked with Corban University women’s basketball Head Coach Terry Williams to create and organize the Bruce Henderson Memorial Capital City Tournament. The event honored the memory of former Willamette Head Coach Bruce Henderson who died in December of 2008.
Lapray played basketball at Oregon State University until a knee injury sent her to the sidelines. Later, she played at Portland State University, where a second knee injury almost ended her career.
She transferred to Willamette, where she was a starting forward on the Bearcat women’s basketball team that qualified for the 1995-96 NAIA Division II National Tournament.
A search to fill the head women’s basketball coaching position will begin soon.
