The Trinity International University women’s basketball team has announced the hiring of Courtney Peay as their new assistant coach.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Peay attended Nyack College in New York and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Youth and Family Studies in 2013 and a Master’s Degree in Divinity in church development in 2018. Coach Peay comes to Trinity after serving the past five seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater.
Peay played four seasons on the court for the NCAA Division II Warriors and was a member of Nyack’s historic 2009-2010 women’s basketball team that won the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CAAC) championship and became the first Nyack team to qualify for an NCAA postseason tournament in school history.
During her career, Peay also became involved with Athletes in Action, a sports ministry focused on equipping athletes, coaches, and sport-minded individuals to grow in their relationship with Jesus and multiply their life into others. Her involvement saw her travel on two different tours to help spread the word of Christ in Asia and Kenya. An ordained minister, Peay also is an abstract artist in her free time.
“We’re excited to have someone with her character to be joining the staff with her experience as a player and in coaching,” Trojans head coach Irvin Jerry said. “We’re excited most importantly to have a coach serve as an educator and as someone who can help our young ladies grow spiritually, emotionally and athletically.”
The TIU women’s basketball team is scheduled to begin the 2020-2021 season on Saturday, October 24 at Indiana University-Kokomo. Stay tuned to TIUtrojans.com for the latest updates.
