Kost Resigns as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Illinois Springfield

The University of Illinois Springfield athletics department announced today that women’s basketball head coach Mark Kost will be resigning his position and will not return for the 2019-20 season.

“We thank Mark for all of his contributions to the UIS women’s basketball program over the last four years,” said Director of Athletics Jim Sarra. “Mark will be leaving the program in much better shape than when he arrived. We wish Mark the best of luck in his future endeavors.

“The goal for the UIS women’s basketball program is to be among the top teams in the GLVC, and regularly advance to the national tournament. We will be searching hard for a new head coach that is the right fit for UIS and can accomplish those goals.”

Kost finished his fourth season at UIS in 2018-19, and he had a career record of 38-66. His top team came in 2017-18 when the Prairie Stars went 13-13 overall, and just missed making the GLVC Tournament for the first time in program history by one game.

A national search led by Sarra will begin immediately for the new women’s basketball coaches.
