Edgewood College’s nationwide search for a new head women’s basketball coach has turned up an experienced candidate. Director of Athletics Suann Saltzberry has named Kole Vivian to take over the Edgewood College women’s basketball program.
“We are excited to have Kole Vivian join the Eagle family,” said Eagles Director of Athletics Suann Saltzberry. “Kole is an experienced coach who can elevate our women’s basketball program to the national stage. He has proven to be a coach that can lead a team to consistent NCAA tournament appearances, having reached the tournament four times; including the last three seasons. I am eager to see how Kole can build off the current foundation and take our program to the next level. We are looking forward to the contributions Kole will make in our student-athlete’s lives.”
Vivian’s experience at the national level separated him as a top candidate to lead Eagles women’s basketball. He has a passion for basketball and comes from Marietta College where he spent the past eight years at the helm of the women’s basketball program.
“It is a great honor to be named the head coach of the women’s basketball program at Edgewood College,” Vivian said. “I would like to thank Director of Athletics Suann Saltzberry, the rest of the hiring committee, and the administration at Edgewood College. This program has accomplished significant accomplishments in recent years and has great people in and around the program. I am looking forward to building on that success and helping create a great experience for our team members.”
Vivan led Marietta to their first Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in 2017-18 with a 24-5 record, the most wins in program history and their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Following the 2017-18 season, Vivian was named OAC Coach of the Year, WBCA NCAA Division III Region 6 Coach of the Year and D3hoops.com Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year.
Vivian returned Marietta to the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 via at-large bids out of the OAC. In 2021-22, the team won the first NCAA Tournament game in program history. In 2022-23, Vivan’s team reached the NCAA Sweet 16 with a 22-8 record. In all seven seasons, Vivian has accumulated a 143-66 record and participated in the OAC Tournament each season.
Under Vivian’s leadership, 23 all-conference awards have been earned by the Marietta women’s basketball team, including eight first team selections. Three players have earned D3hoops.com Third Team All-Region during his time, including a WBCA Honorable Mention All-America selection in Amisha Herd (2017-18).
Vivian continues to grow the game, as his assistant coach Jenna Anderson was named WBCA Thirty under 30 following the 2023-24 season. Vivian has also served as the OAC women’s basketball President and NCAA Regional Advisory Committee Member during his time at Marietta.
“There is so much that makes me excited to be the head coach at Edgewood College,” shared Vivian. “First off, the current team is set up for success. The College is in a great location with high achieving academic programs for our team members. And being from Wisconsin, it is special to be closer to family in Madison.”
Vivian is no stranger to Wisconsin, having received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from UW-Stevens Point. He earned a Master of Science in General Education from Stevens Point in 2010. Vivian also served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at UW-Stevens Point from May 2007 to March 2011. During his time, the Pointers made the NCAA tournament four consecutive years, including three Sweet 16 appearances and an Elite 8. The Pointers collected a 101-19 record and captured two regular season conference titles and four conference tournament titles during Vivian’s time as an assistant coach.
