Koeller Set to Join University of Wisconsin-Platteville Women’s Basketball Staff

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Kristina Navarro-Krupka and Head Coach Kelly McNiff announced Tuesday (July 26, 2021) the hiring of Alex Koeller as assistant coach of the Pioneer women’s basketball team.

“I am extremely excited to add Coach Koeller to our women’s basketball staff. His passion for basketball speaks volumes and I know our players will feed off of that,” said McNiff.”

Koeller brings nine years of coaching experience and moves to UW-Platteville after a three-year stint at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. The Eagles finished 2020 NACC North Division Conference Champions and registered a number of program firsts including a season-best record of 25-3 and winning the NACC Tournament Title. Edgewood also made its first appearance in 15 years to the NCAA Division III Tournament that same season.

“Success has followed Alex everywhere he has been. His basketball knowledge and experience will be huge assets to our program. I can’t wait to start working with him!” said McNiff.

Before coaching at the collegiate level, Koeller had an illustrious career as head varsity coach at Marshall High School. While there, the team won back-to-back Division III Girls’ Wisconsin State Titles in 2018 and 2019. He was also selected the 2018 WBCA High School Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year.

Koeller earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sport Management and Leadership from Viterbo University and a Master’s of Business Administration from Edgewood College.

“I would like to thank Coach McNiff and Dr. Navarro-Krupka for believing in me for this opportunity. I am excited and grateful to join the Pioneer Family. I am looking forward to getting to work with this great coaching staff and student-athletes,” said Koeller.
