Kluzak tabbed as new WBB Head Coach at D3 Northland

After a national search, Northland College is excited to announce Benjamin Kluzak as the next Head Women’s Basketball Coach.

“We had an overwhelming and very strong pool of candidates but kept coming back to Ben” commented Director of Athletics, Seamus Gregory. “He has a very strong sense of who we are as an institution and athletic department. His passion for the game and for Northland College kept rising to the top through the process. He’s a proven recruiter and has a tireless work ethic. We are ecstatic he has decided to return to Ashland and begin the rebuild of Jill’s Basketball”.

Kluzak spent the 2021-22 season as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach under Head Coach- Scott Sorenson before being named the Head Coach at Mountain Gateway Community College for the 2022-23 season.

Prior to coming to Northland in 2021, Kluzak was the Head Men’s Assistant Coach and Head JV Coach at Brescia University during the 2020-21 season.

While at Brescia, Kluzak’s main responsibilities included recruiting, opponent scouting, and student-athlete skill development. Kluzak used his in-depth knowledge of off-the-court administrative work as well by organizing travel, study tables, lodging and meals. Kluzak also worked as the Head Coach of the Brescia Junior Varsity squad.

Prior to Brescia, Kluzak spent the 2019-2020 season as an Assistant Coach at Rock Valley College, an NJCAA program in Illinois. This was Kluzak’s second stint with the Golden Eagles as he had previously served as a Student Assistant during the 2015-2016 season where he helped RVC win the NJCAA Division III National Championship. During Kluzak’s second go-round with Rock Valley, he once again had demonstrative success as he helped guide them to a Region IV title.

Between his two Rock Valley College positions, Kluzak spent 3 years as the Head Student Assistant at NAIA program Graceland University in Iowa. This was the second time that Kluzak would work for Craig Doty, currently the Head Coach at NCAA Division II Emporia State. During his three years at Graceland, from 2016 until 2019, he helped guide the Yellowjackets to unprecedented success, including capturing the NAIA National Championship during the 2017-2018 season. Kluzak would graduate from Graceland in the spring of 2019.

Kluzak began his coaching career from 2011 through 2015 at Jefferson High School in Rockford, Illinois, winning three Region Championships over a four-year span.

“I would like to thank the search committee and Northland community, it’s a place where family and a sense of belonging is very important. I’m excited for the opportunity; it will take some time, but the pieces are there, I can’t wait to return to Northern, WI” said Kluzak.
