Former Syracuse men’s basketball graduate assistant coach Katie Kolinski has been named University at Buffalo women’s basketball director of operations, as announced by head coach Felisha Legette-Jack on Friday afternoon. Kolinski joins the Bulls after seven seasons with the Syracuse Orange men’s program.
“Coach Kolinski is perfect for what we are building her at UB,” said head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. “She is a hard worker, a ferocious learner and her passion for the game is unmatched. We are fortunate to have her join our Buffalo women’s basketball family. Please join me in welcoming Katie Kolinski to our Bulls Nation.”
Kolinski comes to Buffalo after spending the past seven seasons at Syracuse working under legendary head coach Jim Boeheim with the men’s program. The Syracuse, NY native became the first female graduate assistant coach under Boeheim in 2016 and remained in that role last season as the Orange advanced to the Sweet 16.
In her role as graduate assistant with the Orange, Kolinski supervised the program’s undergraduate managers, assisted with analysis and breakdown of opponent video while also performing managerial and administrative duties during practice and games. She also participated in on court activities for practice and individual student-athlete workouts as she aspires to become a college basketball coach in the near future.
Prior to her time as a graduate assistant coach for the Orange, Kolinski served as a team manager for five seasons while completing her undergraduate degree in physical education. During the 2014-15 campaign she became the first female in Syracuse men’s basketball history to be named head team manager.
She has also worked at Jim Boeheim’s Big Orange Basketball Camp for the past five summers and gained valuable experience working at the Jim Boeheim Fantasy Camp for men age 35-and-above for the past three years.
Kolinski earned her master’s degree in instructional design, development and evaluation from the Syracuse School of Education in 2018. She also earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Syracuse in 2016 after being a prep standout in basketball at West Genesee High School just outside of Syracuse for three seasons.
