Lourdes University athletics director Jo Ann Gordon has announced that head women’s basketball coach Karen McConnell has resigned her position at the school to pursue other opportunities.
“We’d like to thank Coach McConnell for leading our women’s basketball program for the last three seasons,” Gordon stated. “While we are disappointed in her departure, we wish her nothing but the best as she pursues her future endeavors.”
McConnell has spent three seasons at the helm of the Gray Wolves, posting a 22-66 record. During her tenure at Lourdes, she produced three Honorable Mention All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference selections as well as a member of the WHAC All-Defensive Team this past season.
“I would like to thank Lourdes University for the opportunity to serve as women’s basketball coach these past three years,” McConnell stated. “I would also like to thank Jo Ann Gordon for her guidance and support and I know the athletic program will thrive under her leadership. I have had the opportunity to work with some outstanding colleagues and coach some excellent young women. I wish the players and the program the best of luck in the future and am excited to follow their success. I have always encouraged the players to make family their priority, and now it is time for me to do the same.”
McConnell produced NAIA Scholar Teams all three seasons while at Lourdes, and have five players named NAIA Scholar-Athletes. In addition, she produced a CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team selection in both 2013-2014 and 2014-2015.
A search to replace McConnell will begin immediately.
