Kansas adds assistant

University of Kansas women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson announced Thursday that KU alum Terry Nooner will join her staff as an assistant coach. Nooner was a guard for the KU men’s basketball team from 1997-2000 and served as a team captain in his senior season.

Nooner comes to Kansas after serving as an assistant at Southern Illinois during the 2011-12 season. At KU, the Kansas City, Mo., native will work with the Jayhawk perimeter players in addition to recruiting responsibilities.

Prior to joining the college coaching level, Nooner spent seven years coaching high school and AAU basketball in the Kansas City area, while also serving as a basketball instructor. He coached the girls 13U and 15U teams for the Lady Phenom AAU organization from 2007-11 and previously coached the Earl Watson KC Bruins 17U boys team in 2006. Nooner also coached boys basketball at Southeast High School (2002-03, 2007-08) and Raytown High School (2008-09) during his six years of teaching special education at the two schools.

In addition, Nooner served as president of KC Pro Am Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides basketball instruction, from 2007-11, and also worked as a personal basketball instructor at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City from 2006-11. He has been involved in training NBA players Chauncey Billups, Tyronn Lue and Billy Thomas as well as several college players.
