Joyner, Jr resigns at Johnson C. Smith; Travis named Interim Head Coach

Steve Joyner, Jr has resigned as the head women’s basketball coach at D2 Johnson C. Smith University (CIAA). Joyner, Jr. had been at JCSU for the past ten years where he put together a 148-105 (.585) record. No reason was given for his departure.

Golden Bulls assistant Coach Dante Travis has been elevated to interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Travis is in his first season at JCSU after a one-year stint at Northwest Kansas Tech.  Travis brings a plethora of experience with over 20 years of coaching experience at the High school, JUCO, Division I, and Division II ranks for both men’s and women’s programs.  Prior to Northwest Kansas Tech Travis served as the Director of Player Development at Division I Morehead State University for two seasons. Travis won the first game of his tenure with an 86-64 victory over Bluefield State on Saturday. JSCU now stands 1-3 on the season.
