Jordann Reese Joins Creighton Women’s Basketball Staff

Creighton women’s basketball coach Jim Flanery announced the hiring of Jordann Reese to complete the Bluejays’ women’s basketball staff, she will officially join Creighton in the latter portion of September.

A nine-year coaching veteran, Reese comes to Omaha after spending the past five seasons at Saint Louis University (SLU). During her time with the Bilikens (2015-16 to 2019-20), SLU went a combined 102-62. In each of her first two seasons (15-16 & 16-17) SLU closed the year with at least 25 victories, reaching the second and third round of the WNIT respectively.

“I’ve known Jordann for several years, both as a player and a coach. During that time I’ve grown to admire her competitiveness on the court and professionalism off the court,” said Flanery. “Some of the things that brought her to the top of our candidate pool is that she has worked at a similar institution and has a strong knowledge of our recruiting base.”

“Playing against Creighton and seeing the consistency they have had in playing at a high level as well as developing players, I’ve admired the work that Coach Flan and his staff have done,” said Reese. “The program and the culture are incredible, which makes me very excited to join the Bluejay family.”

Prior to her tenure at SLU, Reese spent two seasons (13-14 & 14-15) an assistant coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). She was part of a coaching staff that guided SIUE to a 19-12 record and a second place (13-3) in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2014-15. Reese began her collegiate coaching career with a two-year stint as an assistant at Webster, where she helped lead the Gorloks to the championship game of the 2013 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

As a player Reese was a four-year letter winner at Drake. She was a Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman selection in 2006, a First Team All-MVC performer in 2009 (First Team) and an All-MVC Second Team pick the following year (2010).

Reese and current Bluejay assistant coach Linda Sayavongchanh have a intertwined past. The two were teammates at Drake during the 2005-06 season, then Sayavongchanh was a student assistant coach for Reese in 2006-07. Reese went on to replace Sayavongchanh at SLU in the summer of 2015, when Sayavongchanh accepted her current role at Creighton.

“Having the opportunity to coach alongside Linda was certainly a draw, yet the opportunity to make an impact under the direction of Flan is something I am very excited about,” noted Reese. “One story I often tell is that at Drake we had one full court drill every day and I had to defend Linda. I had speed and quickness, but she had strength. From early in my freshman year she took me under her wing and showed me a great deal. We’ve joked about coaching together, but the stars aligned and it’s going to be great.”

Reese is a 2010 graduate of Drake with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. The former Jordann Plummer and her husband, Ryan, have a daughter, Bailey. She is taking over the role held by former Bluejay Chevelle Saunsoci, who left the program in early April to spend more time with her family and focus on her independent basketball development program.
