Alicia Manning, a former standout student-athlete from the University of Tennessee who played for the legendary Pat Summitt, has been hired as a member of the women’s basketball coaching staff at John Carroll University.
"I am thrilled to have Alicia be the first addition to this staff," said John Carroll’s first-year women’s basketball head coach Kelly Morrone. "It was important to our program to select a candidate that could be immediately impactful in a number of ways. Her nationally recognized playing experience as a forward for the Lady Vols has prepared her to direct our post players."
Manning played in 139 games during her four seasons at Tennessee. By the time she concluded her career in 2012, Manning had been a part four NCAA Tournament invites, two of which ended in the "Elite 8".
She also was part of three Southeastern Conference tournament championships and two SEC regular season titles. She was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team in 2011.
A native of Woodstock, Georgia, Manning played at Etowah High School where she was a 2008 McDonald’s All-American and a member of a state championship winning team as a senior.
Since the conclusion of her playing days, Manning has pursued her goal of becoming a collegiate basketball coach by founding AMP’D (Alicia Manning Personal Development) Training in Knoxville. AMP’D is geared towards developing athletes into better people and performers, and has served to train boys and girls ranging in ages from 8-17 years old that centered on versatile sessions with basketball skills, speed and agility, strength and conditioning work, and sport psychology consulting.
According to Morrone, Manning’s abilities as a "natural leader and teacher" made her an ideal choice as an assistant coach who could impact all facets of the Blue Streak program.
"She has the energy and personality to lead our recruiting efforts," said Morrone. "I am looking forward to working with her and I’m excited for our players to have the opportunity to learn from such a decorated athlete."
Manning graduated from the University of Tennessee in December of 2011 with a degree in Sports Management. She completed her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology in May of 2013.
While serving as a graduate assistant at Tennessee over the past year, Manning worked with the Tennessee Fund, interacting with donors and aiding fundraising efforts.
