Western New Mexico University (a member of the Lone Star Conference, NCAA II) invites applications for our Graduate Assistant positions to the Women’s basketball Head Coach. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Compensation: $5000 Scholarship per year, 6 credits per semester, $400.00 Mustang Bucks per semester to eat on campus. Free Housing is a possibility if hired by Housing Department as a Hall Director, but not guaranteed.

Anticipated start date: Beginning of August

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include assisting the Women’s Basketball Head Coach with:

  • Recruiting
  • Planning and running practice sessions
  • Supervising weight training and conditioning
  • Enforcing team discipline and rules of conduct
  • Fund-raising activities
  • Assist in camp programs
  • Monitoring the academic progress of student athletes
  • Supports the Head Coach in insuring compliance with all rules and regulations of the Lone Star conference and the NCAA II
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or the Athletics Director

Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree. Ability to acquire a CDL (Commercial Driver’s license) and to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification test required by September 1, 2020. Demonstrate a commitment to a successful NCAA II Women’s Basketball program, both academically and athletically. Excellent professional/interpersonal communication skills. College or strong playing background required. Must have the knowledge and ability to teach offense and defensive skills
