Description:

The Director of Player Development will report to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach. This individual is primarily responsible for working in conjunction with the Head Coach to help the team progress both on and off of the floor of competition and after graduation. The Director of Player Development will do this by focusing on the creation, organization and implementation of relevant programming to aid student-athletes in their holistic growth and development in areas including but not limited to character refinement, spiritual formation, academic performance, athletic performance, professional development, etc. Another function of this position is to collaborate with constituents within the athletic department and other on campus resources to enhance student-athlete well-being and to enhance the student-athlete experience for members of the women’s basketball team, serving as a bridge between them the coaching staff, other support members within the athletic department and around campus. Additionally, this position will also assist the coaching staff in analyzing team and opponent film in preparation for workouts, practices and competition and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities: 

  • Foster meaningful relationships and build trust with student-athletes on the women’s basketball team through routinely planned, intentional interactions
  • Direct, coordinate and implement programs and initiatives focused on the development of the student-athletes on the women’s basketball team, in order to create more pathways for success in all aspects of their college experience
  • Direct, coordinate and implement programs and initiatives focused on the professional development of the student-athletes on the women’s basketball team, in order to prepare for life after college basketball and graduation
  • Direct, coordinate and implement programming to help improve mental health and mental performance of student-athletes on women’s basketball team
  • Monitor, assess and report on the individual and collective needs of student-athletes on the women’s basketball team through regular and frequent check-ins
  • Create, maintain and update a documentation system in order to keep track of relevant and appropriate interactions
  • Collaborate with other departmental academic performance staff, like the Student Athlete Development Center (SADC), in order to help support student-athlete academic success and post-graduate professional success
  • Collaborate with departmental athletic performance staff, like Athletic Training, Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition, in order to aid in the assessment and improvement of overall athletic performance
  • Collaborate with on-campus, University resources, like Student Life and Spiritual Formation, to help enhance the student-athlete experience or develop crisis management plans, when necessary, for member’s of the women’s basketball program
  • Develop individualized assessments and improvement plans for member’s of women’s basketball team
  • Assist with video analyzation, organization and dissection of film on an individual and team basis
  • Assist with the tracking of statistical data for workouts, practices and games
  • Assist with opponent scouting, strategy and game planning
  • Meet with prospects and families on campus visits
  • Serve as personal and professional resource for alumni of Lady Bison basketball program
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years coaching or playing experience at collegiate level
  • Must have a cell phone & web/email access
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must have a basic understanding of basketball

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of NCAA, ASUN, University and Departmental rules and regulations
  • Experience with individualized performance coaching
