Description:

Full-time, temporary position anticipated to end on ore before April 30, 2017, with the possibility for reappointment.

This position, under the direction of the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, coordinates all video support to the Women’s Basketball program. Also provides video of Department of Athletics events for various media outlets.  Duties include live editing of games and practices, player and scout edits, and all lead tasks related to practice, including supervising student managers.

Responsibilities

I. Coordinate video needs of women’s basketball program

  1. Edit all games and practices for women’s basketball program.
    1. Capture video from DVD to the hard drive of computer.
    2. Mark up each possession of game using video editing software.
    3. Enter basketball-specific data.
    4. Produce edits that highlight objectives set by women’s basketball staff.
    5. Create and maintain X and O video playbook and keep current for coaches and athletes.  Create daily/weekly teaching personnel edits for team once practice begins.
    6. Edit video copy to produce electronically-based communication for targeted internal (coaches) and external audiences.
    7. Transfer video to meet the media needs of targeted internal (coaches) and external audiences.
  2. Operate video camera and/or lead the operation of camera for all the women’s basketball practices, games, and other events as required by the Department of Athletics.
  3. Video strength and conditioning workouts for inclusion in Web design and on-campus visit highlights.
  4. Develop and sustain system to maintain hardware and software necessary to meet the needs of the women’s basketball program.
  5. Research and make recommendations for replacement of video equipment (hardware and software) as necessary.
  6. Determine and order needed supplies, including DVD and other video equipment parts.
  7. Coordinate film exchange program.
    1. Request film from common opponents.
    2. Reply to film requests and mail film to common opponents.
    3. Ensure compliance with conference film exchange requirements.

II. Organize on-campus recruiting visits for women’s basketball team.

  1. Assist head coach and assistant coaches in development of plan for recruit visits.
  2. Develop specific itinerary for each recruit visit.
  3. Coordinate visit travel arrangements with recruit and parents, including flight, hotel, and ground transportation.
  4. Confirm travel arrangements and meetings with appropriate university and vendor personnel.
  5. Submit required NCAA and university forms to Athletic Compliance for visit approvals.  Ensure compliance with all NCAA and university requirements related to the visit.
  6. Submit required forms to Athletics Compliance and Athletic Business Office for post-visit recaps and reimbursements.

III. Coordinate with Facilities Management (home and away)

  1. Secure practice times and venues for all home practices and games.
  2. Secure practice times for away games.
  3. Work with head coach to plan monthly calendar.
  4. Communicate scheduling to staff, facilities staff, and student-athletes.

IV. Coordinate and produce electronic video media to market sports events.

  1. Record all women’s basketball athletic events that are aired on television.
  2. Create and maintain a video library of all women’s basketball events.
  3. Maintain communication with all coaches and Media Relations staff on features of student-athletes and coaches.
  4. Design and distribute recruiting materials using Web-based computer software.

V. Other duties as assigned

  1. Assist other sports with production of highlight videos.
  2. Work with Student-Athlete Academic Support Services to develop class schedule for practice purposes

  • Ability to interact well with others and display high energy and enthusiasm.
  • Proven ability to understand offensive and defensive basketball strategies.
  • Ability to keep current with the latest video technology available.
Experience and Education

Bachelor’s degree and three years of NCAA Division I collegiate basketball experience as a player, manager, or coach, OR a combination of education/experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Specialized Requirements
  • Must have computer digitized video editing experience and basketball knowledge to prepare edits.
  • Experience with coordination and management of film exchange.
  • Experience with NCAA Division I game and practice preparation and coordination.
  • Experience with Sportstec video editing software.
  • Compliance with all NCAA, conference, and San Diego State University rules, policies and procedures is of paramount importance to the university.  All position responsibilities should be carried out in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four or more years’ experience with NCAA Division I collegiate basketball experience as a player, manager, or coach.
  • Experience with various social media outlets in promoting/highlighting an athletic program in a collegiate sports setting.
  • Experience with camp coordination.
  • Experience with FastScout and FastDraw.
