Description:

Westminster College of Missouri is searching for a Women’s Basketball Coach. This is a full-time 12-month position.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs responsible program building including planning, coaching, managing, recruiting and directing the basketball program. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach also teaches courses in Health and Exercise Science which include Physical Education activity courses, coaching theory and officiating courses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manages and directs the women’s basketball program.
  2. Coaches the women’s basketball team.
  3. Teaches courses in Health and Exercise Science.
  4. Manages all aspects of the team including strength and conditioning, practicing, competing and scheduling.
  5. Evaluates and recruits qualified student-athletes.
  6. Directs and supervises the assistant women’s basketball coach.
  7. Scouts opponents.
  8. Manages a fiscally sound budget.
  9. Directs the assistant women’s basketball coach in coordinating study hall and tutoring
  10. Monitors class schedules, grades and student-athlete academic progress.
  11. Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
  12. Ensures that student athletes follow a standard of conduct that aligns with the core values of the College.
  13. Responsible for basketball student-athlete retention.
  14. Responsible for marketing and promoting of the basketball program.
  15. Serves as the director of basketball summer camps.
  16. Assists the administration with alumni relations.
  17. Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the College, SLIAC and the NCAA with the utmost integrity.
  18. Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the College positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and general public.
  19. Completes other assigned administrative duties in a timely manner.
  20. Responsible for establishing job standards for subordinate staff and effectively evaluating staff under charge.
  21. Engages in regular consultation with athletic training and other sport department personnel to maximize the safety and wellness of student-athletes and demonstrates concern for the overall welfare of students at all times.
  22. Game management in other sports is required.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Two years of demonstrated successful coaching experience at the high school or college level. Commitment to attend all scheduled practices and games. Collegiate coaching is preferred. Experience working with diverse populations. Experience contributing to campus diversity efforts.

  • Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
  • Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the College, SLIAC and the NCAA.
  • Ability to hire and supervise qualified assistants and student workers.
  • Ability to market and promote.
  • A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed.
  • Ability to attend seminars, meetings and other professional development opportunities at or away from the College.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively – orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
