Description:

The Head Coach, Women’s Basketball will manage the daily operations of the program competing in the University Athletic Association (“UAA”) as well as serve in an administrative capacity on the department’s Senior Leadership Team. This position reports to work on a full-time basis during the months of August through May.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administers all elements of program, including developing team policies and procedures; scheduling contests and planning for home and away competition; demonstrating fiscal responsibility and budget oversight; promoting a team culture conducive to academic and athletic excellence; assisting, as needed, with fundraising strategies and events; outreaching to alumni and other members of the Washington University community; encouraging team members to participate in community service; and attending department, university, conference and NCAA meetings.
  • Coaches the team, including developing in team members the skills necessary for successful competition in the assigned sport; recruiting, hiring, developing and overseeing a staff of assistant coaches; devising and implementing strategy for practice and competition; defining team and individual goals; and demonstrating positive sportsmanship and leadership.
  • Coordinates the recruitment of prospective students to Washington University, requiring the identification of academically qualified prospective student athletes, ongoing communication with prospects, initiation of applications and matriculation of prospects.
  • Serves as a member of the department’s Senior Leadership Team and contribute to the development of a long-term vision and strategic plan for Washington University Athletics; assists with staff development and mentoring of other coaches; and coordinates select special events including the Parent Social, Student-Athlete Advisory Council Banquet and Hall of Fame reception.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel to on and off campus games/meets, work alternative work schedules, including evenings and weekends.
  • The successful candidate can choose to be paid over ten or twelve months.
  • Actual compensation offers will depend on candidate’s experience and expertise.
