The head coach for women’s basketball is responsible for initiating various aspects of the basketball program, such as teaching skill techniques and tactics, recruiting, budget management, scheduling of opponents, and the strength training and conditioning of squad members. The head coach of the women’s basketball program is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by the University of Charleston, the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and the NCAA. This is a full-time, twelve-month position. UC is a member of the NCAA at the Division II level.

Essential Responsibilities:

*Promote, monitor and facilitate student-athlete classroom success

*Recruit student-athletes that align with the mission of the university

*Teach on court dribbling, shooting, rebounding and other basketball techniques to promote proper skill development

*Instruct the women’s basketball team members on both offensive and defensive tactics and strategies

*Provide oversight of staff and team members as it relates to following all MEC, NCAA and UC policies and regulations

*Generate additional funds for support of the program

*Coordinate and instruct individuals on strength training and related fitness skills *Organize and schedule all team practice sessions

*Educate different campus constituencies and community members on the core values associated with the women’s basketball program and the athletic department

*Schedule home and away contests with the approval of the Director of Athletics

*Perform administrative tasks such as budget management, reconciliation of travel expenses, and the ordering of supplies and equipment for the women’s basketball program

*Effectively manage athletic scholarships and obtain assigned roster numbers and net revenue values that have been set for the women’s basketball program

*Provide an environment where student-athletes learn the values of citizenship, integrity, appreciation for cultural diversity, and respect and responsibility for self and others

*Establish mentoring opportunities with both institutional and community groups for team members

*Represent the University of Charleston and the basketball program in a professional manner

*Provide oversight and training of any full-time, part-time and/or volunteer assistant coaches

Secondary Responsibilities:

*Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics

*Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among the various athletic programs that UC sponsors

*Serve as game day administrator for softball
