The Athletics Facilities Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the gymnasium and the Athletic/P.E. Equipment room. This includes scheduling, maintenance, facility prep, athletic equipment issue and the inventory of all Athletic Department and Physical Education Department equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Athletics Facilities Coordinator reports to the Vice President of Student Services and the Director of Athletics and is responsible for the following:
- Schedule the main gym for practices and games for school athletic teams and organizations, and outside interests. To include setup and disassembly of equipment needed for each event.
- Supervise the day-to-day- general maintenance and cleaning of the gymnasium facility, scheduling of personnel that perform the maintenance and cleaning duties and unlocking and locking the main doors while the facility is open for daily use.
- Supervise the receiving, marking, storing, and maintaining inventory of all athletic and physical education equipment and supplies stored in the gymnasium; process necessary paperwork required by the Director of Athletics.
- Supervise and coordinate, along with the equipment manager, the checkout of game equipment and clothing for athletic contests. Coordinate with P.E. instructors about use of equipment.
- Attend all athletic contests and practices as directed by the Director of Athletics.
- Keep gym grounds, athletic and P.E. fields clean and in proper condition for practice and competition.
- Plan and order supplies needed to maintain gymnasium area, athletic and P.E. equipment.
- Train and supervise work study students and have knowledge of college work study procedures. Assign student workers as needed for the cleaning, and maintenance of the facilities and for setup and disassembly of equipment for each event.
- Ensure that student workers’ time is recorded daily and approved in the college system.
- Provide assistance in the equipment room, as needed, and have knowledge of Athletic/P.E. equipment checkout and repair procedures.
- Prepare budget, recommend purchase and maintain inventory of athletic equipment and supplies, as necessary and have knowledge of district budget procedure and inventory system.
- Coordinate an intercollegiate women’s basketball program. The general responsibilities are to organize, direct and administer all aspects of the basketball program, including the ongoing recruitment of student athletes. Must have the ability to plan and execute practice, coach, and have oversight of all games, schedule athletic contests, maintain a sport budget and initiate and participate in fundraising activities.
- Purchase and maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Record and compile player statistics and submit required reports.
- Complete reports, schedules, and grades within established guidelines.
- Instruct related courses in basketball skills and conditioning.
- Participate in the evaluation of materials and the development of outlines for courses taught.
- Participate in division and coaches meeting on campus and conference coaches meeting.
- Involvement in department activities.
- Work collaboratively with the athletic faculty, staff and administration.
- Participate in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) compliance trainings.
- Enforce District and CCCAA rules and student requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The above duties will be accomplished under general supervision individually or through delegation to subordinate employees and/or work study students. The coordinator will be responsible for the direct supervision and evaluation of employees assigned to this area.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, athletic administration or related field required and two (2) years of related coaching experience, or Associates degree in related field and six (6) years of related coaching experience.
- Must have performed at a collegiate level and have coaching experience at the high school level or above.
- Must be dependable, able to communicate effectively, exercise initiative, poise, and good judgement.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Provide assistance with other athletic department needs.
Personal:
- Ability to independently plan and organize work assignments.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships both within the District and external.
- Detail oriented.
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students; and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
Working Conditions:
Assignments are typically 40 hours per week and 12 months per year. May require over-time, holiday or weekend work.

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS
The salary range for the position is a Grade 7 on the 2022-23 Educational and Classified Administrator Salary Schedule, with a range of $61,525-$70,544 per year. In addition, the Head Coach will receive an annual stipend of $13,281.15, with an off season recruiting stipend of $3,356.91 . Courses taught related to the Head Coaching opportunity will be paid at the applicable hourly adjunct rate of $69.75-$81.96 per hour.
