Portland Community College is accepting applications for the position of Head Women’s Basketball Coach. This part-time coaching position reports to the Director of Athletics and works with campus departments and athletic commissioners to ensure compliance with all NWAC codes, policies and procedures. The PCC women’s basketball program is seeking a coach with women’s collegiate or high school basketball coaching experiences. The Panthers women’s basketball team practices at the PCC Cascade Campus. The candidate should have insight and a strong commitment to properly mentoring female student-athletes in both the academic and competitive athletics realm. This is a part-time salary-stipend position.  This position closes on Friday, April 17, 2020. 

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Recruit prospective student-athletes and inform them of Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAC) eligibility requirements.
  2. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of eligibility rules, and collaborate with the PCC athletic department on all information needed for completion of eligibility forms and records.
  3. Assure that student-athletes complete eligibility requirements for participation including, completion of financial aid applications, enrollment in required credit hours, meeting with academic advisors, and other items as delineated in PCC’s student-athlete agreement.
  4. Determine which student-athletes will be offered letters of intent and tuition waiver scholarships. Assure that all student-athletes understand the terms and conditions in receiving tuition waiver scholarships at Portland Community College.
  5. Teach a one credit advanced basketball physical education class (Fall Term) which provides an additional stipend. Please see link for further details on teaching qualifications: https://www.pcc.edu/instructor-qualifications/pe/
  6. Work with assigned academic advisors and athletic staff to track student-athletes academic progress.
  7. Work with athletic department in scheduling contests (games, scrimmages, practices) and abiding by the league schedules set up by the region commissioners.
  8. Transport teams to events and provide supervision before and after games; meet all scheduled obligations; work with athletic staff to manage travel money, insure safety, and promote ethical behavior.
  9. Work with the athletic department to assure that game scores are reported to the NWAC office and that statistics, financial receipts, and other required paperwork is submitted in a timely manner.
  10. Understand and comply with all basketball policies, procedures, rules and regulations, including NWAC rules related to eligibility, playing season dates, travel squad size, home game responsibilities, scrimmage rules and pre and post season tournaments-Crossover, NWAC Basketball Championship
  11. Promote the PCC women’s basketball program to student body, faculty, and community and assist the athletic department in fundraising efforts.

 

Requirements: Intercollegiate or Interscholastic basketball coaching experience/background. Current First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain upon hiring). Valid and unrestricted Driver’s License. Formal background check, copy of transcript from highest degree earned; ability to teach advanced basketball physical education class.
