Description:

Oakton has an opening for a Head Women’s Basketball Coach. The Head Coach is responsible for the overall management of the intercollegiate Women’s Basketball program including game and practice coaching, player and team skill development, recruiting and retention of academically and athletically prepared students.  Activities of the basketball program will be supervised within the rules and guidelines of the NJCAA, the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference and the college.  This position is also responsible for the hiring and supervision of both paid and volunteer team coaches.  The successful applicant must be available afternoons and some weekends during the Winter season.

In season and off season team practice and conditioning programs are planned and conducted by the Head Coach.  Basketball skills are developed through skills training and weight and conditioning training.  The Head Coach directs the identification and recruitment of new players to the program, including traveling to regional high school and club basketball events and showcases.  All practice/competition facilities and equipment are monitored by the Head Coach.  In season game results and statistics are reported to internal and external media sources, news stories and features are recommended to support the program; end of season scores, and team and individual statistics are reported to appropriate groups.  Student honors within conference, region, and other athletic governing bodies are recommended and advocated by the Head Coach.

Requirements:

An Associate’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and abilities can be obtained); three years of basketball playing experience at the collegiate or high school level; and two years of basketball coaching experience as a head or assistant coach at the college, high school, club team, or travel team level are required.  Certification in First Aid and CPR/AED, and a valid Class “D” driver’s license are also required.

A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.  Preference will also be given to applicants with at least two years of collegiate level playing experience.  An ability to work independently in an unstable and chaotic environment is desired.  Knowledge of NJCAA/NCAA rules and regulations is a plus.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning and leadership skills, and serving as a positive role model for young adults are expected.

Coaches are hired on a season by season basis. A reasonable effort is made to assure future coaching assignments to those coaches who have had a history of successful academic and athletic team performances at Oakton Community College.

All coaching assignments are conditioned on sufficient team membership. Once a season starts, the Head Coach is expected to complete the season.
