Description:

LAKELAND UNIVERSIY, an independent, not-for-profit, liberal arts institution, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Head Women’s Basketball Coach.

 

The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for the management and administration of all activities related to the women’s basketball program. The position requires the head coach to direct all aspects of the basketball program including, but not limited to, recruitment and retention of qualified student athletes, basketball specific strategy relating to practice and game situations, and coordinating team travel arrangements to include transportation, lodging, and meals. In addition, the selected head coach will hire the open full time assistant coach position as well as lead and mentor the women’s basketball staff. The candidate is fully responsible for compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association/Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference rules and regulations as well as University policies governing intercollegiate athletics.

 

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Hiring an open full-time assistant coach.
  • Overseeing all aspects of the women’s basketball program.
  • Monitoring student athletes’ academic performance and eligibility.
  • Recruiting qualified prospective student-athletes.
  • Constructing the skill development of team members.
  • Managing practice planning, game preparation, and scouting of opponents.
  • Managing the budget, the development of a competitive schedule, community service opportunities, alumni engagement, and fundraising efforts.
  • Hiring, supervising, and mentoring assistant and volunteer coaches.
  • Monitoring the health, wellness, and safety of team members through working collaboratively with the athletic training staff and head strength and conditioning coach.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualified candidates should possess the following skills, traits, or experiences:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in coaching at the intercollegiate level or three years of professional experience teaching his/her sport is required. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility and related functions is required
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;
  • Ability to effectively manage time and priorities;
  • Ability to prioritize office workflow and make effective administrative decisions to increase efficiency, accuracy, and productivity;
  • Demonstrated ability to tactfully and effectively communicate (written and verbal) with a variety of individuals;
  • Strong critical thinking skills;
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) or similar products;
  • Demonstrates organizational ability, and attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends as needed.
