Great Lakes Christian College, located in Lansing, MI, is seeking a full time Women’s Basketball Coach.

Great Lakes Christian College is an NCCAA Division II institution and competes in the NCCAA. This position is responsible for planning and directing the recruitment, skill development, performance, scouting and administration of the Women’s Basketball program in the manner that upholds the mission and values of Great Lakes Christian College and the Athletics program. The successful candidate will be dynamic, energetic, and teaching-oriented. They will demonstrate a strong commitment to the Christian faith.
The applicant must be able to communicate effectively, in writing, in person and by telephone. This position reports to the Director of Athletics and is a part of the Enrollment Management division of the college.
The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for maintaining a high-quality NCCAA athletic program that supports student recruitment and enhances the educational experience and personal growth of the student-athletes.
The Coach will manage the team and all aspects according to the Great Lakes Christian College Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Policies and Procedures.
The Coach must conduct all activities in accordance with all state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and the College’s policies and procedures. Additionally, the Head Coach must comply with all NCCAA regulations while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
Minimum Qualifications

- Sport Experience – Extensive knowledge of individual and team skills with the ability to teach these skills. • Recruiting – The ability to evaluate and compare athletic talent for potential growth and development of student athletes. Maintain correspondence with many prospects: e-mail, letters, and phone.
- Academic Monitoring – The ability to establish and monitor an academic system that ensures academic success for the student-athlete.
- Budget Management – Must be able to work within the budget given by the athletic department. • Travel – The ability to plan, organize and execute travel arrangements.
- Computer Skills – This position is expected to have computer literacy.
- Communication Skills – This position is expected to have a high level of communication skills with student athletes, prospective student-athletes, their coaches, counselors, parents and boosters in the community. • Fundraising – The ability to develop the sports community in the areas of support and fundraising.

Essential Functions
Key Responsibilities:
60% of Time the Athletics Head Coach Must:
- Acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and demonstrate personal maturity and godliness, agree with our statement of faith, and be involved with a local church body.
- Ensure the effective teaching and instruction of all specific technical skill areas to student-athletes. • Coach student athletes in their growth and development in the sport with techniques and fundamentals of their position and sport conditioning.
- Develop team and individual strategies to have the greatest chance of winning within the sport, through on court/field teaching and video instruction.
- Design instructional programs for the team and individual student athletes and instruct student-athletes on how to implement a game plan as determined for each competition.
- Travel to events and evaluate potential student-athlete talent, correspond with all prospects via email, phone, face to face conversations, etc.
- Complete all necessary Compliance and Institutional documentation as required.
- Recruit student-athletes who meet College academic and athletic standards.
- Responsible for direct supervision of assistant coaches, all staff disciplinary actions, and any other personnel management duties as required to maintain a successful staff.
- Responsible for overall performance of athletes’ academic progress by working closely with the academic support staff.
- Make sure programs and student-athletes comply with all rules and regulations regarding compliance issues. • Responsible for successfully managing an annual budget including all necessary fiscal planning. • Promote the program to the public including, media, donors, the College community and the public to increase visibility and revenues for the program.

- Communicate and cooperate in a highly professional manner with all departments and/or administrative units at Great Lakes Christian College relevant to problems or potential problems that may arise and, ultimately, impact on your program.
- Responsible for scheduling contests, arranging travel and transportation, following budgetary guidelines, purchasing equipment, inventory of equipment and supplies, and all issues related to the intercollegiate Women’s Basketball program.
35% of Time the Athletics Head Coach:

- Working with athletic and admissions department to ensure the promotion of the department 5% of Time the Athletics Head Coach
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position will require you to work nights and weekends. Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and wearing hearing protection. Physical demands include, but not limited to, standing throughout the day, using a loud voice at practices and events, physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master preferred.
- Evidence of at least two years of successful coaching experience is required, preferably at the college/university level
- Valid Driver’s license/qualified to operate a passenger vehicle of up to 12 or 15 passengers per van consistent with college insurance regulations.
