Description:

The Head Women’s Basketball coach reports to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for the conduct and overall supervision of the program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct all aspects of a program that complies with all NCAA, Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) and Earlham College rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship and mature conduct as the head of the program.
  • Positively represent Earlham to all on and off campus constituency groups.
  • Positively represent Earlham in conference, regional and national coaching associations.
  • Develop a team that is competitive in the HCAC.
  • Work closely with Admissions and other campus offices to recruit outstanding student-athletes.
  • Support the academic achievement and personal growth of team members for purposes that include retention and graduation.
  • Help orient student-athletes to the policies and regulations of the College and the NCAA.
  • Effectively teach individual skills, team concepts and competitive values.
  • Prepare and execute practice and game plans.
  • Oversee the conduct and discipline of student-athletes.
  • Prepare team competition schedules guided by the Earlham Scheduling Principles that meet NCAA and HCAC regulations.
  • Prepare and administer operating budget.
  • Inventory, purchase and maintain equipment and uniforms.
  • Hire, train and supervise assistant coach.
  • Work with the Sports Information Office to aid in the promotion of the team and Earlham College.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.

  • Attend all athletic staff meetings and the annual athletic staff retreat.
  • Support all other athletic programs.
  • Serve on departmental committees.

Meet all the expectations of an Earlham faculty and Student Development member.

  • Understand and support the basic mission of the College as a Quaker institution and a liberal arts college.
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Support students through attendance at campus events and activities.
  • Support student development activities by working at events.
  • Serve on campus committees.

Teach courses in the Athletics, Wellness and Physical Education (AWPE) curriculum.

  • Staff members teach four activity courses each year or teach the Lifetime Wellness course.
