Description:
Cairn University’s Department of Athletics is seeking to fill the position of Head Coach for Women’s Basketball in a position which will also include responsibilities as a full-time staff member in the Department of Athletics.  Cairn University is a NCAA Division III school and participates in the Colonial States Athletics Conference.
Coaching responsibilities include oversight of all aspects of the program including:
  • Recruitment of student athletes in partnership with Admissions, who are a mission fit to the University and have the skills to be playing collegiate athletics.
  • The selection of players through organized pre-season sessions and the establishment of conditioning programs to develop the student athlete in the off-season.
  • Establishing clear strategies for the team and implementing organized practices that develop the skills needed for that strategy including particular elements of situational game events.
  • Modeling Christ-like behavior during all aspects of coaching particularly during games/events.
  • Investing into the lives of the players and developing them personally as a competitor, a person and a follower of Christ.
  • Monitoring acceptable academic performance not just to remain eligible but to maximize the pursuit of a college degree.
  • Adhering to all rules, regulations and policies of the University, Athletics Department, NCAA, NCCAA, and Colonial States Athletic Conference.
  • Working with members of the Athletic Department to build enthusiasm amongst students, staff, alumni and parents for the sport and the team.
  • Create game and season traditions that build the Cairn Highlander experience.
  • Assist the Athletic Department in the recording of stats and game analysis. In addition, assist in the effective marketing and imagery of the team in news releases, web articles and social media.
  • Coordinate schedules, travel, uniform needs, vehicle use, and other details with members of the Athletics department and other University departments as needed.
  • Meet regularly with the Athletics Department for meeting and training sessions.
Staff responsibilities are determined and assigned by the Director of Athletics in conjunction with the schedules and abilities of other coach/staff members of the department.  They may include the following:
  • Administrative work in support of league and university policies and requirements.
  • Game day preparation, travel coordination, assistance managing uniforms and equipment
  • Oversight of student workers
  • Support for the department’s safety, compliance, and day-to-day operations
  • Representing the Athletics program among internal and external constituents
The successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred), previous successful coaching experience preferably at the collegiate level, and a demonstrated ability to work with student-athletes, athletics personnel and administration.
