- Establish and articulate a clear and fundamentally sound Christian philosophy for the basketball program
- Model Azusa Pacific mission, goals and values
- Properly evaluates and recruit student-athletes who meet university academic and social expectations, while satisfying conference, and association eligibility standards
- responsible for monitoring and supporting the student-athletes academic progress in consultation with senior director of compliance.
- Understand and adhere to NCAA regulations regarding the administration of the sport
- Actively participates and assists in athletics marketing, public relations and fundraising
- Develop, organize, and grow an annual summer camp program specifically for the sport of basketball
- Establish individual and team development as the fundamental teaching focus for the program
- Establish effective public relations to promote the sports program among staff, students and community
- Organize and manage the budget, equipment, and schedule of the program
- Works cooperatively with university personnel and positively represents the university when interacting with community, alumni, media, and general public
- Establish a system of continual professional development, both personal and for the staff, through a variety of opportunities, including coaches’ associations, conferences, clinics, and seminars
- Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs
- Performs other duties as required by the director of athletics
Level: Coaching Faculty
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required
- Evidence of a strong commitment to an evangelical Christian philosophy and lifestyle
- Sufficient experience to justify coaching and recruiting responsibilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of current thinking in areas of conditioning, fitness, sport techniques and strategy, and leadership and program management
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and minister to student athletes
- Demonstrated proficiency in the rules and regulations of the NCAA
- Moderate activity, full range of arm motions, bending, squatting, twisting, lifting, pulling
- Reading documents, computer use, broad observation of field of competition, see quickly moving objects
- Both climate-controlled indoor environment and exposure to outdoor elements of win, sun, and temperature.
- Understanding of Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word and Excel, and web-based programs (JumpForward, PeopleSoft, etc.)
Experience:
- Successful previous head coaching experience of 5 to 7 years
Workload: Full-time, 12-month
