Responsibilities
COACHING, COUNSELING, AND MOTIVATION: Establish and maintain good rapport with student athletes and parents; Provide a positive role model when coaching, counseling, and motivating team players; In a timely manner, review professor’s academic progress reports secured by Assistant AD for Compliance and Academic Services, consistent with athletic departmental procedures; Maintain a level of sensitivity toward class absenteeism when planning team practice, game schedules, and travel. PROGRAM ORGANIZATION AND TEAM LEADERSHIP: Provide pre-planned practice, travel, and game schedules to enhance communication with athletes and coordination with appropriate athletic staff such as the Director of Sports Medicine and Sports Information; Keep an inventory record of all supplies and equipment with appropriate assignment sheets in order to maintain adequate supply levels; Supervise and train staff members such as assistant coaches, graduate assistants, managers, college work-study students, etc. Maintain a good working relationship with Augusta University administrative staff and faculty, such as the financial aid office, admissions office, registrar’s office, Faculty Athletic Representative, faculty advisors, professors, etc. RELATIONSHIPS AND STUDENT RECRUITMENT: Develop a good relationship with the coaches and contacts of high schools, junior colleges, clubs, and community-sponsored groups; Contact and evaluate local, state, national, and international prospective student athletes; Conduct official and unofficial visits on campus; Maintain knowledge of NCAA recruiting rules to pass annual certification test. Coordinate recruiting efforts with NCAA Compliance Officer as required. OPERATING PROCEDURES AND BUDGETS: Submit the annual sports budget in a timely manner to Athletic Business Manager for approval by the Athletic Director; Obtain prior approval for all purchases and team travel through the Athletics Business Manager; Submit proposed athletic scholarships to the Athletic Director for approval; Submit squad lists, roster lists, and other required data to the Assistant AD for Compliance and Academic Services in a timely manner as requested. PROMOTION AND COMMUNITY EVENTS: Maintain accessibility to the media; Conduct public speaking appearances; Involve the team in special community and campus fundraising activities; Support and promote Jaguar Club functions; Develop strong business relationships with individuals involved in current and potential accounts; Serve on Augusta University, PBC, NCAA and/or other civic committees locally, regionally and/or nationally if selected. KNOWLEDGE AND COMPLIANCE: Comply with all related Augusta University, PBC, NCAA, and Augusta University Athletic rules and procedures; Participate in Augusta University, PBC, NCAA, and Augusta University Athletic rules and policy education programs; Maintain knowledge of the Augusta University Student Athlete Handbook in order to discuss with student athletes appropriate rules and procedures pertaining to their activities and conduct; Attend professional development seminars and conferences to enhance professional development. OTHER DUTIES: Perform all other related duties as assigned.
