Description:

Purpose

  • The Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistant assists the athletics department in the sport of women’s basketball. This position is responsible for all assisting aspects of team coaching, academic progress, recruiting and retention of student-athletes, and other related activities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties to be assigned.

  • Coaching
  • Teach sport techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics.
  • Practice and compete with clear objectives and goals.
  • Condition athletes appropriately for endurance, strength and agility.
  • Supervise and conduct practices and contests safely.
  • Model appropriate behavior and sportsmanship in and out of the athletic arena.
  • Provide positive motivation.
  • Discipline players as necessary in accordance with team, university, conference and NAIA rules.
  • Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to the team (University learning outcomes and NAIA core values).

 

  • Organization and Communication
  • Assist the head coach with games, practices, and strength and conditioning programming during traditional and non-traditional seasons within the guidelines of the conference and the NAIA. Assis the head coach with monitoring off-seasons activities and programming. Comply with eligibility, recruiting, playing and procedural rules.
  • Assist the head coach in recruiting and maintaining a minimum roster size of competitive student-athletes.
  • Assist the head coach with arranging travel for away competition including transportation, meals and lodging.
  • Assist the head coach with maintaining equipment and conducting an annual inventory of equipment.
  • Assure safety in all aspects of the program including facilities, practices, games, and travel.
  • Assist the head coach with maintaining sportsmanship, professionalism, and good public relations within the team, and in the university and community.
  • Schedule and conduct games, practices, and strength and conditioning programming during traditional and non-traditional seasons within the guidelines of the NAIA for the Varsity Reserve program.

 

  • Administration
  • Work with Assistant Athletic Director and department staff members to provide occasional site supervisor for athletic home events.
  • Work with SID department staff members to provide occasional assistance in their duties/department.
  • Enforce university, building, and athletic policies and procedures.

 

  • Education and/or Experience
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree required, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better preferred.
  • Must remain in good standing with the University academically and judicially.
