Description:

The graduate assistant coach will report directly to the Women’s Basketball Head Coach and will gain experience assisting with all aspects of a Division II women’s basketball program. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside sponsors 15 sports and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

HESM Duties/Expectations (could include)

  • Teach undergraduate 100-level activity classes (1-3 per semester)
  • Fieldwork/Internship coordination
  • Office lobby desk coverage
  • Communications/Marketing
  • College of Natural and Health Sciences and HESM event planning and execution
  • Research assistance for faculty
  • Coaching Duties/Expectations
  • Assist with all aspects of the women’s basketball program, including:
  • Planning and execution of practice
  • Player development
  • Opponent scouting
  • Film breakdown
  • Recruitment of student-athletes
  • Travel and operational logistics
  • Organizing camps and clinics
  • Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes
  • Consistently demonstrate a positive team player attitude, building and maintaining professional working relationships with all departmental staff, including but not limited to the athletics administration, the sports medicine department, support staff, and other department coaches
  • Represent the athletics department through collaboration with a variety of campus groups
  • Represent the athletics department appropriately and intentionally through community involvement, speaking engagements, media responsibilities, etc.
  • Represent UW-Parkside as appropriate with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and the NCAA
  • Consistent with NCAA Bylaw 11 and institutional procedures, Coach understands and agrees that if Coach is found in violation of any NCAA or Conference Legislation or fails to report a violation, he/she shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal skills and the ability to exhibit professionalism and maintain confidentiality. The ideal candidate will have experience as a student-athlete, manager, and/or coach in a college basketball program.

Candidates must be willing to work long hours and travel, including nights, weekends and holidays in addition to weekly office hours scheduled around University classes.
