Description:

The Director of Women’s Basketball Operations is responsible for the areas of the annual team budget, team travel, compliance liaison, overseeing academics, assisting in scheduling the season and the organization of team calendar, team appearances/promotions, supervising student managers, and managing ticket lists. In this position, you will assist the Head Coach oversee equipment as well as act as liaison between the camp coordinators for each team and the Athletics Department.

Fiscal Management

  • Prepare annual basketball budget and manage budget expenditures throughout the year
  • Analyze all women’s basketball expenditures and advise Head Coach on all budget-related issues
  • Review, analyze, and provide Athletic Business Office with all budget-related documentation

Supervision

  • Supervise managers and work-study students:  hire, fire and performance feedback
  • Interview candidates for assistant coach vacancies and make hiring recommendation to Head Coach
  • Develop, write, and communicate procedures to ensure an effective flow of information between women’s basketball support staff and other Athletic operations
  • Serve as a point person to work and communicate with compliance office
  • Develop and implement policy relative to home game day sideline pass control
  • Establish and implement policy relative to complimentary admissions for high school coaches and former basketball student-athletes

Academic/Student-Athlete Support

  • Partner with Athletics Student Services to identify and monitor academically “at risk” student-athletes (S-A)
  • Provide S-A’s with time-management and organizational skills counseling

Team Promotions/Marketing

  • Lead planning/scheduling all team appearances inside and outside of campus; activities include working at the soup kitchen, and visiting cancer patients locally
  • Coordinate community service for student athletes: PU Cancer Challenge, PU Dance Marathon for Riley Children’s Hospital, Hunger Hike, Shoes for Haiti, and visited Bauer Afterschool Program
  • First point of contact for the Fan Experience staff regarding activities during the women’s basketball games throughout the season
  • Liaison between the coaches and the promotions group when developing the annual marketing plan and working with the plan throughout the year for the basketball team specifically
  • Help to develop ideas that can enhance recruiting and fan experience through facility improvements
  • Organizes activities to enhance tickets sales – Cereal Drive for local food pantry, Cancer Game, Bring a Child to the Game Campaign and Chef for a Day at local restaurants

Recruiting

  • Plan, organize and implement the on-campus recruiting program. Participate in on-campus recruiting visits
  • Plan, organize and implement the campus annual walk-on tryouts for prospective players
  • Interpret and ensure adherence to NCAA, Big Ten, and Departmental policies and procedures
  • Report and document violations and recommend course of action to Head Coach
  • Work with compliance director to resolve issues

Scheduling

  • Assist the coaching staff with scheduling the entire season annually working 2-3 years out
  • By meeting with a variety of constituents, is responsible for the development of the master calendar for the program which includes public appearances and promotional activities
  • Assist the coaching staff with the identification of future opponents and works in conjunction with the business office to negotiate game contracts
  • Establishing the travel schedule and basketball requirements for all away games, including the contacting of the host University to coordinate the activities associated with the visit; this includes all post-season tournament games – WNBA liaison – contact with scouts and player personnel from various teams
  • Implements all travel plans throughout the trip – scheduling practice times and locations, liaison with charter bus service, organizing meal locations and transportation
  • Liaison with John Purdue Club members traveling with the team

Camp Coordination/Liaison

  • Liaison between the camp coordinators for each team and the Athletics Department regarding their privatized camps
