Description:

Under the direction and supervision of the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, the Director of Women’s Basketball Operations is responsible for the administration of activities for the Aztec women’s basketball program.  The incumbent will serve as the liaison to all of the above-named offices in the Athletic Department.  Assist in organizing and administering appropriate pre-season, season, and post-season programs necessary for a quality women’s basketball program.

Responsibilities

I.   Travel

  • Liaison to Athletics business office for all aspects of women’s basketball team
  • Generate and coordinate all paperwork related to travel, including T-2’s, travel claim forms, and reimbursements.
  • Coordinate transportation for coaches and team including booking flights, reserving rental cars, scheduling buses, and arranging meals.  Provide a detailed itinerary for all away/home contests.
  • Prepare purchase orders for lodging in each city of travel for away contests.
  • Develop bid documents as necessary in conjunction with Athletic Business Office.
  • Work with representatives of opposing institutions to coordinate practice times.
  • Prepare for post-season games including housing, practice facilities, meals, itineraries, and all other activities.

II.  Budget

  • Liaison with the Athletics Business Office for all women’s basketball purchases and expenditure activity.
  • Work with members of SDSU Athletics Business Office to develop a budgetary strategy for team travel.
  • Comply with budgetary travel policies and procedures set forth by SDSU.
  • Review all equipment purchases and make certain the rate and quality meet the needs of SDSU women’s basketball.
  • Make sure all equipment purchases are made within budget constraints.

III.  Lead women’s basketball contact for following areas:

  • Athletics administration, Equipment Room, Event Management, Compliance/NCAA rules, unofficial visits, Academics, Admissions, Financial Aid, Media Relations, Marketing, Business Office, Weight Room, Sports Medicine,  and computers for office.

IV.  Schedules

  • In conjunction with sport supervisor or designee, schedule women’s basketball contests and maintain future schedules.
  • Develop annual calendar.
  • Assist with arrangements of head coach’s public relations appearances.

V. Facilities

  • Work with Event Management staff to schedule on-campus practices, competitions, and individual workouts, both in and out of season, as well as practices for visiting teams.

VI.   Recruiting

  • Organize recruiting calendar, video library, highlight film, and all data in the computer system.
  • Organize all official visit weekends and other aspects of recruiting visitations and unofficial visits.
  • Maintain and design all recruiting stationery, note cards, etc.

VII.    Other duties

  • Develop equipment and uniform orders for team and coaches with Director of Athletic Equipment or designee.
  • Oversee student managers.
  • Coordinate player housing, both pre-season and in-season.
  • Liaison for training table schedule, both pre-season and in-season.
  • Coordinate and assist with women’s basketball fund raising events.
  • Complete CARA reports (Countable Athletic-Related Activities).
  • Coordinator for study hall for women’s basketball student-athletes.
  • Coordinate all Compliance required forms, trainings, NCAA and conference rules updates, recruiting test dates, compliance meetings with coaches, etc.
  • Responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating clerical support for women’s basketball office.
  • Assist with coaches’ clinics and seminars.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The ideal candidate must possess the following:

Knowledge of and ability to understand basketball skills and fundamentals.

Ability to organize and manage all aspects of women’s basketball operations including the budget.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present a positive image.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships on campus and in the community.  Ability to work flexible hours and travel out of town.

Has demonstrated integrity and ability to follow NCAA and university rules and regulations.

Experience and Education

Bachelor’s degree.  Combination of two years of experience working in an athletics office and/or playing collegiate basketball.

Specialized Requirements

Compliance with all NCAA, conference, and San Diego State University rules, policies and procedures is of paramount importance to the university. All position responsibilities should be carried out in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Combination of three or more years of experience working in an athletics office and/or playing collegiate basketball.  One year working as a collegiate director of basketball operations, or a comparable position.

Experience in making travel arrangements with strong attention to details.
