General Summary of Responsibilities Assist head coach in program organization and day-to-day operations. Identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills. Provide instruction, educational development of students, and advise students. Monitor the academic eligibility of student athletes. Perform activities that support the university, such as participating in community outreach activities, meeting with media representatives, and appearing at fundraising events. Identify, categorize, and report information on external recruitment and internal development. With specific duties including, but not limited to, scouting of potential recruits and opponents, organizing camps/clinics, and academic coordinator.
Required Qualifications A minimum of two-years of basketball coaching at the collegiate or high school level (Experience as a graduate assistant can be used to satisfy this requirement).

Master’s degree required or Bachelors w/at least 18 hours. towards a master’s degree in Kinesiology or related field.

Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Kinesiology or Related Field.
Teaching License.
Data Involvement Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Synergy, and other video recording/playback equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge:
Knowledge of technique, tactics, and skills of basketball and ability to teach the skills. Knowledge of rules and regulations of college-level basketball. Knowledge of University and Athletics Department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Knowledge of NCAA and Gulf South Conference policies and regulations. Knowledge of student-athlete eligibility policies and rules. Knowledge of recruitment policies and regulations. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

Skills:
Operation of computers and software. Operation of office equipment and tools. Speak before large and/or small groups and give presentations to convey information effectively. Active listening, critical thinking, and time management skills. Social Perceptiveness, being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do.

Abilities:
Able to give and receive verbal and written information and instructions. File scouting reports that detail player assessments, provide recommendations on athlete recruitment, and identify locations or individuals to be targeted for future recruitment efforts. Instruct individuals or groups in sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles; such as specific ways of moving the body, hands, or feet, to achieve desired results. Able to interact with a diverse group of students, staff, faculty, and community members. Ability to lift 30 pounds. Ability to teach specialized PE Courses (First Aid, Wellness, Basketball, Volleyball, Fitness, etc.)

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities Supervise, instruct, or train others through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice or make recommendations based on technical expertise.

Responsible for the supervising, leading, and mentoring up of 15 student athletes.

Communicate information among co-workers, customers, vendors, and management.

Counsel student athletes on academic, athletic, and personal issues.

Monitor athletes’ use of equipment to ensure safe and proper use.

Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations.

Decision- Making Responsible for making quick decisions in the best interest of all parties involved, while remaining within the scope of VSU’s emergency plan should an emergency arise.

May be responsible for actions of others requiring development of procedures and constant decisions affecting subordinate workers, crime victims, patients, customers, clients, or others in the general public.

Responsible for adjusting game plans, planning camps and clinics, advising student-athletes with academic related issues.

Financial Authority None.
Involvement with Tools and Equipment Use office machines such as copiers or calculators.

Use computers for data entry and film preparation.

Use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations or custom applications.

Use and setup of portable goals and other basketball related equipment.

Education, Experience, and Certification/License Qualifications Required:
A minimum of two-years of basketball coaching at the collegiate or high school level (Experience as a graduate assistant can be used to satisfy this requirement).
Master’s degree required or 18 hours towards a Masters.

Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Kinesiology or Related Field.
Teaching License.

Compliance Requirements Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.

Position Requires a Criminal Background Check.

Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).
Athletic positions require Red Cross CPR/FA/AED Certification, as well as, NCAA Eligibility and Recruitment Certification. If operating a state owned motor vehicle, AAA Defensive Driving Certification is also required.

Information Technology Position Requires Banner access.

Position Requires ADP Self-Service.

Provide instruction, educational development of students, and advise students.

Monitor the academic eligibility of student athletes and academic progress towards a degree.

Perform activities that support the university, such as participating in community outreach activities, meeting with media representatives, and appearing at fundraising events.

Identify, categorize, and report information on development.

Job Duty Instruction:
Meet deadlines, including maintaining and submitting accurate class records, employee records/requests, and other assigned tasks.

Participate in professional developments as they relate to job duties, adhere to College policies and procedures, and participate in College/Departmental meetings, events, and committees as appropriate or required.

Prepare, manage, and deliver course content based on course objectives, differentiate for learning styles, ensure classroom environment is safe, hold face to face classes as specified on schedule (days/times).

Utilize College technology for delivery of instruction and completion of operational processes; this includes but is not limited to the College’s learning management system, email, document management system(s), student information system, and employee portals.

Actively engage students, provide prompt feedback, and work collaboratively with the KSPE department to identify and address student’s academic support needs.

Prepare/update course syllabi in accordance to the College directions.

Facilitate a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty, and staff.
