UMW Women’s Basketball is seeking an Assistant Coach who will assist in managing and directing the women’s basketball program by performing responsible program building, including but not limited to; planning, coaching, recruiting, and assist in teaching PHYD 404. In addition, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for administrative duties within the department as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Work is performed under general supervision of the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, as well as the Director of Athletics; and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

Requirements of this position include:

• Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
  •A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned.
  •Ability to scout opponents and break down game film.
  •Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the university, the Coast to Coast Conference and the NCAA.
  •Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  •Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  •Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  •Ability to communicate effectively – orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  •Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  •Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.
• Must be willing to travel and be available to work flexible hours including nights and weekends as required.
• Have experience playing on a college basketball team.
  • Have past experience as an assistant basketball coach.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with UMW policies.
