Job Description

  • Assist the head coach in planning and organizing all phases of a Division I basketball program
  • Assist head coach in preparation and conduct of practices and games
  • Work in conjunction with staff focusing on post player development
  • Scouting of assigned opponents
  • Organize and manage male practice players
  • Work in conjunction with director of basketball ops to coordinate and organize team travel
  • Recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes and related regional and national travel
  • Help facilitate unofficial and official recruit visits
  • Liaison to designated campus support departments and athletic departments: equipment, marketing, communications/social media, and certain areas of compliance
  • Coordinate and direct team and individual camps and clinics
  • Coordinate outreach efforts with community, alumni, supporters
  • Assist the head coach in any other areas deemed necessary

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Working knowledge of Division I NCAA rules and regulations
  • Two or more years coaching experience at the high school and/or collegiate level; and/or collegiate playing experience
  • Ability to recruit within and knowledge & understanding of NCAA and Big Sky Conference rules & regulations

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience coaching Division I Women’s basketball

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

 

  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks (not limited to coaching) and to work well within a management team committed to do excellence.
  • Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the game, and ability to coach and motivate
  • Knowledge and experience with video editing equipment preferred
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in both computer and multimedia technology in order to edit and compile scouting reports
  • Experience working with multicultural groups and issues and ability to serve well in an increasingly diverse community.
  • Skill in developing and motivating student-athletes for athletic and academic success.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and experience with word, excel, power point, iMovie, and social media (Facebook, twitter, etc.) preferred
  • All coaches and athletics administrators have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big Sky Conference and NAU with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations as mandated by NCAA Bylaw 10.1. Satisfactory rules knowledge and rules compliance are conditions of employment. This position, in particular, will fully participate and cooperate in compliance-related activities, procedures and evaluation.
