MIT Women’s Basketball is seeking a part-time assistant to aid in the growth and  pursuit of excellence of the team.

The successful candidate will assist the head coach in all aspects of a competitive NCAA  Division III basketball program including, but not limited to:

  • On-court instruction for practices and games;
  • Creation of practice plans;
  • Player and team development;
  • Game strategies and competitive coaching;
  • Scouting opponents and game film preparation/video exchange;• Recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes;
  • Budget management;
  • Team travel;
  • Aid in posting to social media
  • Other aspects of the program that the assistant would like to learn or based on availability

Practices are held from 5-7 PM M-F and Saturday mornings when there are no games.  There may be other opportunities on campus to supplement your coaching  responsibilities if needed.

Essential Functions:

  1. Coaching/Teaching Duties (75% of Assistant Coach’s time):
  2. Assist head coach in daily practice plans and game plans with the ability to organize and implement plans, strategies, and skill development;
  3. Prepare film breakdown for games or practices and have the ability to present to the team or head coach;
  4. Assist with any day to day on court operations, making sure courts are ready for practice;
  5. Work with the Head Coach in putting together the practice schedule for the season taking in mind the academic schedule of the student-athletes.
  6. Administrative Duties (25% of Assistant Coach’s time):
  7. Conduct an ongoing recruitment program through a variety of methods, with the goal to attract, select and encourage the application of MIT student-athletes. Could include travel to games, showcases, tournaments  nationally;
  8. Help Head Coach when needed in planning bus travel, meals, community service and any fundraising efforts;
  9. Aid in any uniform or equipment distribution and collection.
  10. Supervision:
  11. Potentially our male practice players/managers; making sure they know their responsibilities for the day
  12. Additional Functions:
  13. Comply with the NCAA Basketball policies, conference rules, and department policies and procedures;
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach;
  15. Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.
