Position Summary: 

Marietta College seeks a full-time women’s basketball assistant coach and instructor.  The position is designed to provide future head coaches with a rich blend of coaching and administrative experience at a competitive NCAA, Division III private college.  This 10-month, administrative, full-time position.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  1. Teach proper basketball techniques in position groups assigned by the head coach and assess skill development.  Preference is for strong knowledge of guard play
  2. Instruct concepts of overall physical health and safety for both individuals and the team
  3. Educate students on NCAA Division III rules and Marietta College Athletics Department Learning Outcomes
  4. Recruit future student athletes, using metrics established by the head coach, who understand and are prepared for the demands presented by small, private-college, non-scholarship athletic programs
  5. Monitor team members’ academic progress in consultation with the Academic Resource Center
  6. Scouting opponents and preparing accurate reports
  7. Promote games to the local community in consultation with Sports Information and Student Development.
  8. Create highlight videos.
  9. Manage social media accounts
  10. Teach a lifetime skill class in the Physical Education department

Other Duties as Assigned by the Athletics Administration:

  1. Game day administration
  2. Facility supervision
  3. Intramural supervision and planning
  4. Assisting the Sports Information Director.

Professional Expectations:

  1. Uphold the high professional standard of conduct expected of each person on campus and outlined in our Employee Handbook.
  2. Build positive interpersonal relationships in and out of the athletic department by attending College functions, both social and professional; staff meetings; faculty meetings; serving on committees; etc.


Required Skills and Abilities: 

  1. Willingness to be a team player in the athletic department and role model for athletes.
    Ability to travel, take nightly calls, and conducting campus visits.
  2. Interpersonal communication skills necessary to successfully teach and motivate student athletes.
  3. Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
  4. Ability to be a role model for colleagues and prospective families demonstrated by being a player within the work place.

Required Experience & Education:

  1. Bachelor’s degree and collegiate playing experience.
    Knowledge of recruiting software, scouting software and Microsoft Office products.
  2. Current valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Physical requirements:

 

  1. Position requires mobility within the campus facilities and various sites including travel to game locations.
  2. Ability to demonstrate skills, maneuvers, and techniques to players.
  3. Occasionally required to move or transport (lift) items weighing up to 25 pounds.
