Summary

The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for managing and supervising the day to day operations of the athletic team, with a majority of the time spent coaching student athletes. The role will also contribute to recruiting efforts and will provide leadership and support for the vision and strategies of the Head Coach.  The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Illinois College, the Midwest Conference (MWC), and the NCAA. Illinois College is a member of the NCAA at the Division III level. This position may also have additional responsibilities within the athletic department.

 

Essential Functions

The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.

  • Ensure academic performance and personal development of student-athletes
  • Coach specific units as directed by the Head Coach (may serve in a coordinator role)
  • Coordinate film exchange, film breakdown, and uploading game film to Synergy
  • Provide consultation and expert advice to the Head Coach and team members
  • Prepare, plan, conduct, and evaluate practice sessions as directed
  • Organize and run individual student-athlete skill development sessions
  • Recruit, retain and graduate successful student-athletes
  • Meet the recruitment and retention goals set by the College
  • Recruiting activities include but are not limited to;
    • Traveling to competitions (AAU events, showcases, and high schools)
    • Contacting high school and club coaches
    • Evaluating talent
    • Contacting and meeting with prospective student-athletes
    • Planning campus visits with prospective student-athletes
    • Managing online recruiting databases
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism on and off the court toward student athletes, other coaches, parents, administrators, and members of the community
  • Maintain social media accounts
  • Scout future opponents by watching film and preparing scouting reports
  • Attend regular athletic and admission staff meetings
  • Organize and maintain accurate inventory of basketball equipment and uniforms
  • Assist in organizing alumni meetings and other special events, including fundraising events in collaboration with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations
  • Assume additional administrative responsibilities within Athletics Department, as assigned by the Director of Athletics

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, required
  • Intercultural competency; ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability, required
  • Women’s basketball coaching experience at the NCAA level, Division III, preferred
  • Recruiting experience at the collegiate level, Division III, preferred
  • Must understand and value the liberal arts experience for students at Illinois College, especially including participation in other sports, clubs and organizations, and having an academic experience
  • First Aid and AED certification, preferred
  • Knowledge of NCAA, Midwest Conference, and Illinois Colleges rules, regulations and guidelines
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and some evenings
  • Passion and motivation to recruit student-athletes
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
