Description:

Gogebic Community College seeks candidates for a part-time Assistant Coach.  Assistant coaches at Gogebic Community College are vitally important to the success of our collegiate athletic programs as those working in those positions assist the head coaches of their respective sports with recruitment of student-athletes, oversight of each team’s individual academic performance and the day-to-day operations of each team.  Assistant coaches, under the direction of the head coach, develop practice schedules and other training sessions, train athletes to compete at their peak performance and fulfill other duties as assigned by their head coach to ensure the continued success of their athletic program. This position reports to the Head Coach and the Director of the Lindquist Student Conference Center and Athletics.  It is important that there is recognition, acceptance, and adherence to the community college mission and philosophy from our candidate.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Coach with all duties related to coaching their respective sport.
  • Assist the Head Coach with the recruitment of competitive student-athletes.
  • Assist the Head Coach with the operations of their athletic program responsibly and ethically.
  • Support the needs of all resident students under the direction of the Manager of Campus Suites as requested.
  • Monitor and Support the academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Assist the Head Coach with the input and maintenance of NCJAA schedules and statistics as requested.

  • Work and function in stressful, competitive situations while maintaining sound judgement to make appropriate decisions.

  • Commitment to developing, maintaining and promoting all program work with a “student-first” mentality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or
  • a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 1 year coaching experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Collegiate playing and coaching experience.
  • Progressively more responsible coaching experience.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication stills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to use a computer; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is regularly required of moving, lifting and jumping and otherwise demonstrating the physical skills required of a collegiate player. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an indoor non-air-conditioned facility.  This position requires evening hours, weekend hours and overnight trips.

 

Position Details:

  • Stipend of $7,000 per year.
  • Meal stipend of $500 at the Courtside Café per year.
  • Assistant coaches are eligible to reside in GCC’s campus suites at the expense of the college, but candidates are not required to live on-campus.
  • Flexible schedule during the year.
