Description:

Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the Department and College, as well as the rules and regulations of the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference, the NCAA and other authorities/governing bodies that may legitimately influence the intercollegiate athletics program. All members of the coaching staff are responsible for the knowledge and implementation of the NCAA, NEWMAC and Smith College rules and regulations. Please note that further specifics related to coach compliance responsibilities are noted in the Department of Athletics & Recreation Staff Manual Compliance Chapter.

Assist in the recruitment and selection of student-athletes. Ensure compliance with NCAA guidelines for contacting and entertaining prospects. Coordinate all recruiting visit plans with the Associate Director of Athletics & Recreation. Make efforts to increase diversity when recruiting student-athletes.

Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes, including counseling team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, when appropriate. Assist in regular practice sessions in and out of season, as permitted by NCAA rules and regulations. Develop and implement strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at maximum levels as both individuals and a team. Support the conditioning and training of team members, in conjunction with the strength and conditioning coach and athletic training staff, to ensure that student- athletes are physically prepared for competition.

Assist with approved fundraising activities, as requested. All fund raiser efforts must be approved by the Director of Athletics & Recreation. Participate in public relations activities, including speaking engagements, television and radio interviews, press conferences and appearances at fundraising events as approved or requested. Represent the Department at professional, civic, charitable and alumni events. Assist in attempts to increase interest in the sport and attendance at competitions. Participate in some form of professional development annually.

Support all team rules regarding appearance, practice, class attendance, punctuality, dress code and general standards of behavior. Enforce team rules and appropriate disciplinary action Cooperate and behave professionally with all coaches and administrative staff within the intercollegiate athletics and recreation program to enhance overall departmental operation. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics & Recreation.
